Where to Stay in Rome: Best Hotels and Neighborhoods
Choosing where to stay in Rome makes a big difference in your trip. The city is walkable, but staying in a central neighborhood saves time and makes it easier to enjoy the evenings. Here are the best areas and accommodation options for different budgets.
Best Neighborhoods
- Centro Storico (Navona / Pantheon area) – The heart of Rome. You will be within walking distance of the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain. It is the most convenient location but also the priciest.
- Trastevere – A charming neighborhood with cobblestone streets, great restaurants and lively nightlife. It feels more local and authentic, while still being close to the center. One of our favorite areas to stay.
- Monti – Rome's oldest neighborhood, near the Colosseum and Termini station. It has a trendy, bohemian vibe with independent shops, wine bars and cafés. Great for couples.
- Termini area – The most practical for transport connections, as it is the main train and metro hub. Hotels here tend to be more affordable. The area is not the most charming, but it is convenient.
- Vatican / Prati – A quieter, elegant neighborhood near St. Peter's Basilica. Good for families and those who prefer a calmer atmosphere.
Budget (up to EUR 80/night)
- The Yellow Hostel – One of Rome's best-rated hostels, located near Termini station. Dorm beds start around EUR 25 and private rooms around EUR 70. It has a bar, restaurant and a social atmosphere.

- Hotel Santa Maria – A charming hotel in the heart of Trastevere, set around an orange tree courtyard. Rooms from EUR 140. One of the best mid-range options in Rome.
- Nerva Boutique Hotel – Located in the Monti neighborhood, right between the Roman Forum and the Colosseum. Clean, modern rooms from EUR 120.
