Where to Stay in Zurich
Zurich is compact and well-connected by public transport, so most areas are convenient. Accommodation is expensive compared to other European cities, but there are options for every budget.
Best neighborhoods
- Altstadt (Old Town): The historic center, divided by the Limmat River into Lindenhof (west) and Niederdorf (east). Walking distance to everything. Most expensive area.
- Enge / Wollishofen: Near the lake, quieter and slightly cheaper. Beautiful lakeside walks and easy tram access to the center.
- Zürich West (Kreis 5): A trendy former industrial area with restaurants, bars and cultural venues. Good for a more modern, local experience.
- Near Hauptbahnhof: Extremely convenient for transport connections. Can be noisy but very practical for short stays.

- Zurich Youth Hostel — An HI hostel overlooking the lake in Wollishofen, recently renovated. Great facilities and views for the price. Budget.
