Basic Information about Portugal

• Language: Portuguese is the official language of Portugal and is spoken throughout the country.
• Capital: Lisbon is the capital of Portugal, known for its historic charm, picturesque hills, and vibrant cultural life.
• Currency: The official currency is the euro (EUR). It's always good to check exchange rates before traveling.
• Time Zone: Mainland Portugal follows GMT (Lisbon time), while the Madeira and Azores archipelagos have a one-hour difference.

Documents to Enter Europe

• Passport: To enter Europe, which is part of the Schengen Area, a valid passport is required. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your return date. Make sure it is in good condition and has enough pages for entry stamps.

What to Try in Porto

Francesinha: Try this unique Porto specialty! The francesinha is a hearty sandwich, made with layers of various meats, melted cheese, and a rich beer-based sauce, usually topped with a fried egg. Wineries in the Douro Valley

Visiting the wineries of the Douro Valley is an essential experience for those wanting to explore the region's wine heritage and taste some of the best wines in Portugal.

Distance from Porto: The wineries in the Douro Valley are about 1.5 to 2 hours by car from Porto. For those who prefer a worry-free trip, there are organized tours that include transportation and guided visits to the estates. Click here to learn more about the available tours.

Best time to visit: The harvest season (grape picking), between August and October, is particularly charming. During this period, the vineyards are filled with colors and activities, and many estates offer special events, such as grape stomping. However, spring (April to June) is also a great time to visit, with pleasant weather and blooming vineyards.
